2013 Infinity Summer Challenge - Intro Weekender

Unlike some of the previous Challenge events, the 2013 Summer Challenge is specifically designed for newer players and even gamers who haven't played Infinity before. Saturday will be an introductory day followed by a 'starter pack tournament' on Sunday.

Saturday Daytime - Intro Day

Saturday will see a mix of open gaming, intro games for new players and advice sessions (army building, tactics etc.) for everyone. The exact schedule and sessions will depend on attendee numbers.

Saturday Evening - Fun Stuff

Open gaming plus some silly fun like Space Hulk-inspired Infinity games.

Sunday - Starter Pack Tourney

This will be a 150 point ITS tournament geared towards newer players. It will have several restrictions to even the playing field (a bit) and to leave out some of the more complex rules interactions.

The general idea is that you can easily take part with a starter pack and maybe a blister or two.

Tournament rules:

  • 150 points.
  • No more than seven models.*
  • Hidden Deployment and Airborne Deployment can be used but before the game you have to tell your opponent that there will be surprise models.
  • Mines cannot be used, instead the models get D-Charges.
  • Link Teams are capped at three models.
  • No more than three models that start as Camouflage or TO Camouflage markers.
  • No Impersonation.
  • No Sepsitor.

*This includes all models with a full statline, so models with Ghost: Synchronised and Ghost: Servant count towards the total.

The tournament will start off split into two groups so that newer players get matched against newer players while experienced players get matched against experienced players in the first round or two. Match-ups will then be based of performance in earlier rounds.

The aim is to have two rounds before lunch and two rounds in the afternoon.

Games will use simple missions, in some cases taken from the 2013 ITS rules. Specific missions to be confirmed closer to the time.

Directions & map

Accommodation

Previous attendees have stayed in the Exeter YHA and a few other places in the middle of town. I can offer free floor space for 5-6 people on a first-come-first-served basis, about 20 minutes drive from the venue.

Food

Apart from free tea and coffee, no food or drink is included in the ticket. There is a McDonalds drive-thru and a Costa about 300m up the road, a big Sainsbury nearby (5m drive, 10-15m walk) and we usually make a joint pizza order for lunches each day and for Saturday evening dinner. You're also welcome to bring along packed lunches and use the kitchen to heat up food.
