Roadshow report - Cut and Thrust

On Thursday 10th & Saturday 12th May I was up in Bristol at the Cut and Thrust store as part of the Infinity Roadshow.

As usualy I was too busy during the intro games themselves to remember to take any photos of the crowds, so instead I went round the store on Friday and photographed the rather impressive setup.

First the outside and the view you get as you come in through the door:

Moving in, the usual roadshow intro table was set up alongside the Ariadna & Haqqislam banner:

Dan & Alex had set up an overflow table at the back using a decent amount of 40k terrain (with FoW in the background). This got used on Saturday while I was demoing, apparently a Lasiq Sniper caused utter havoc...

Also on the ground floor was a Warlord Games display and a truly enormous Tyranid force:

Moving upstairs there was a spread of varied gaming tables:

Going upstairs again, yet more tables:

On Saturday I ran yet more intro games (with good responses) and also got in a 'full' 250 point game against Peter's ALEPH forces using my YAMS mission cards.

Peter won the roll-off and chose initiative so I forced him to deploy first on the lower side of the table. Notable points in the game included:

My Spektr Sniper going into hidden deployment at the start of the game and ignoring a whole bunch of tasty reaction shots as he would then have got shot to pieces by Peter's Deva Spitfire or Asura Multi-Rifle models due to their visors ignoring his camo.

After Peter spent his turn advancing into better firing positions, I went on the rampage with the Überfallkommando team of the Chimera and Pupniks - hiding themselves from the Asura with the aid of a strategically-placed zero-visibility smoke grenade they charged the Deva and Devabot who had moved up just that bit too far. Unfortunately only the Chimera and a single Pupnik reach the Devabot and both managed to immobilise themselves on it's electric pulse defence system. Another couple of orders went on the Chimera because although she couldn't move the other two Pupniks could and theycharged and killed the Deva and Devabot.

The smoke then cleared, leaving the temporarily paralysed Chimera in front of a large number of enemy guns... Deva Spitfire on the left, Asura on the octagonal buiding on the right. In the far right you can see a green Line Kazak standing in as a Civvie objective on the grey box:

My Spektr finally uncloaked to shoot down a Dakini-bot that got too close to the Line Kazak as I thought he was after the objective - it turned out he was more interested in shooting my Morlock who was hiding behind the building on that side. Reasult? Dead Dakini.

Things then got somewhat complicated as Peter's Proxy Mk 2 Sniper then appeared and tried to gun down my Spektr, after long exchange of gunfire the Proxy finally went down and the Posthuman consciousness jumped into the Doctor body.

Meanwhile my Tomcat Doctor had arrived on the my right flank and over a couple of turns shot down a Dakini with HMG, the Deva with Spitfire and (eventually, in close combat) the Proxy Doctor. The forces were cartwheeling at this point as my right flank was crumbling to a surprise-arrival of a Garuda with Combi-Rifle who took out two Moderators and also managed to sneak up behind my Prowler with Spitfire and shoot him in the back!

Overall an enjoyable if eventually one-sided game. Victory to the Nomad Nation!

An evening and a day of intro games was over and great fun was had by all! Thanks again to Alex and Dan at Cut and Thurst for being so welcoming and I'm already looking at dates for a follow-up roadshow visit. In the meantime, they're running an infinity day on Sunday 27th May which I'll be heading up to to get some games in. :-)

Finally, dinner on the way home and a fantastic sunset over the Severn Estuary:
